Lysanders love Essay Example

Lysanders love Paper The two women argue. Hermia accuses Helena of steeling Lysanders love from her and Helena argues that she is in on the act. Demetrius and Lysander begin to row about who loves Helena the most. The arguments are full of extreme dislike emotion and generate images of hell once again. There is a theme of jealousy here. Puck is told to fix his problems. He pretends to be each human to separate them and get the right couples together, Hermia and Lysander, and Helena and Demetrius. Titania is fussing over Bottom and the fairies are taking very good care of him too. Oberon begins to feel sorry for Titania falling in love with a so-called monster. He makes her fall back in love with him. She thinks she was having a bad dream when she wakes up back in love with her real partner. Theseus, Hippolyta and Egeus find the lovers and Bottom. Egeus is reminded that it is time for Hermia to make her decision about whether to live or die, but Demetrius interrupts and says he does not want to be with Hermia, as he does not lover her, he loves Helena. He believes you should be with the person you love, and not be forced into it. Bottom is left sleeping. Once again we have images of the sun and moon, they are symbolic of the natural forces having control over other things. They suggest magic fate and forces have an impact and influence on happenings. This also suggests and links into astrological horoscopes which many people read today. People try and change fate, to prevent bad things from occurring. The actors cannot find Bottom until when he decides to wake and shows up late. Everyone turns up to watch the play at the wedding. The play is performed with some comedic wit. The clock strikes twelve and it is the end of the Summer Solstace. Everything turns magical and is enhanced by the fairy world. A Midsummer Nights Dream is still a very important play today. It shows and teaches us of issues in and around love and furthermore magic. In the play Oberon serves as a magical counterpart to the human males and, thus, in his relationship to Titania, provides a different view of love and the relationship with the beloved. The magic that Oberon chooses to teach Titania a lesson is responsible for all the comic misadventures of the plot. The play additionally shows us how men and women treat each other. Hermia and Lysander demonstrate the relationship of undying love towards each other. On the other hand you have the relationship between father and daughter, Egeus and Hermia. Egeus wants Hermia to be with someone whom she does not love, and tries to threaten her. This illustrates that not only is Egeus being selfish, he is also being protective and wanting the best for his daughter. This establishes tension as the audience is left to decide whom they side with. Another example of how men and women treat each other is the association of Helena and Demetrius. Helena does all she can for Demetrius and is very affectionate towards him, however Demetrius dismisses her out of hand because he doesnt care for her. Still today we find families and partners arguing about love, you can even find arguing between men and women in the work place fighting for equal pay. This is one of the many reasons that A Midsummer Nights Dream is still important in todays society. This part of the play also symbolises arranged marriages in cultures and todays civilization. This is also shown through the battle of power between Oberon and Titania, and again today via religion. The play whats more presents to the audience the theme of magic, and the issue that magic, or even money cannot buy love. It displays that relationships are not an easy ride and do need working at. The course of true love never did run smooth. In the play the magic seems to do more harm than good, creating a moral to the story; magic can do no good, it is evil and can hurt people in many ways not realised. The idea of the play is revolved around the inspiration of the Summer Solstace. The Summer Solstace is the longest day of the year, and it is believed this is the day when amazing magical happenings occur. The background of the play and the framework is built around the Summer Solstace. All the things happening in the play, the lovers, the goings on in the fairy world and the mechanicals all have an effect on the outcome of the circumstance they are leading up to. A modern audience would have problems in understanding the context of the magic because in a play it is a lot harder to parade magic as you cannot use camera tricks as it is live, you need to demonstrate it visually. Shakespeares language creates word play with humour and misunderstandings.

Free Essays on Contrasting Rich And Poor In Grapes Of Wrath

One of the ironies of Steinbeck’s novel, The Grapes of Wrath was that, as Ma Joad said, "If your in trouble or hurt or need go to poor people. They're the only ones that'll help the only ones."(pg 335) The irony is that if you need something you have to go to the people who have nothing. There are many examples of this in the book. The first example of this is at the truck station in chapter 15 when the restaurant owner and waitress give the family bread at a discounted rate, and candy two for a penny when it is actually nickel candy. The truck drivers then leave large tips to the waitress. Neither the truck driver nor the restaurant owner and waitress are very rich but they are generous anyway. In chapter seventeen the person at the car dump gives Tom and Al things for way discounted rates. Ma Joad is also an example of this. The Joads are poor and yet they give what little they have to the children who need it. They also stay and help the Wilsons when it just slowed them down. Another example is when the small land owner that Tom first gets work warns them of the plot of the Farmer's Association to raid the government camp. The clerk in the company store in chapter twenty-four is also generous, lending Ma ten cents so that she can get sugar for the coffee. These acts of generosity are contrasted to how the rich people are trying to rip off the migrants. Chapter seven shows how the car dealer rip the people off by selling them pieces of junk for high prices. They use cheep tricks such as pouring sawdust into the gears or transmission to cut down the noise of the car and hide problems. They take advantage of the tenant farmers ignorance of cars and interest rates to make a profit. Chapter nine shows how junk dealers bought all the things from the tenant farmers at a very low price. The farmers have to leave and can't take the stuff with them, so they take advantage of the fact that the farmers have no choice but to sell ... Gerunds, Participles, and Infinitives Explained

Gerunds, Participles, and Infinitives Explained A verbal  is a word derived from a  verb  that functions in a sentence as a  noun  or  modifier  rather than as a verb. In other words, a verbal  is a verb that acts like a different part of speech. Verbals include  infinitives,  gerunds  (also known as  -ing  forms), and  participles  (also known as  -ing  forms  and  -en  forms). A word group based on a verbal is called a  verbal phrase. Each of these verbals is often part of a phrase, which includes related modifiers, objects, and  complements. What Are Participles? A participle is a verb form that can be used as an adjective to modify nouns and pronouns, as in this example: The children, crying and exhausted, were guided out of the collapsed house. Crying is a present participle, formed by adding -ing to the present form of the verb (cry). Exhausted is a past participle, formed by adding -ed to the present form of the verb (exhaust). Both participles modify the subject, children. All present participles end in -ing. The past participles of all regular verbs end in -ed. Irregular verbs, however, have various past participle endings- for instance, thrown,  ridden, built, and gone. A participial phrase is made up of a participle and its modifiers. A participle may be followed by an object, an adverb, a prepositional phrase, an adverb clause, or any combination of these. For example, in the following sentence the participial phrase consists of a present participle (holding), an object (the torch), and an adverb (steadily): Holding the torch steadily, Jenny approached the monster. In the next sentence, the participial phrase consists of a present participle (making), an object (a great ring), and a prepositional phrase (of white light): Jenny waved the torch over her head, making a great ring of white light. What Are Gerunds? A gerund is a verb form ending in -ing that functions in a sentence as a noun. Although both the present participle and the gerund are formed by adding -ing to a verb, the participle does the job of an adjective while the gerund does the job of a noun. Compare the verbals in these two sentences: The children, crying and exhausted, were guided out of the collapsed house.Crying will not get you anywhere. Whereas the participle crying modifies the subject in the first sentence, the gerund crying is the subject of the second sentence. What Are Infinitives? An infinitive is a verb form- often preceded by the  particle  to- that can function as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb. Compare the verbals in these two sentences: I dont like crying in public unless Im getting paid for it.I dont like to cry in public unless Im getting paid for it. In the first sentence, the gerund crying serves as the direct object. In the second sentence, the infinitive to cry performs the same function. Exercise: Identifying Verbals For each of the following sentences, decide if the word or phrase in italics is a participle, a gerund, or an infinitive. The childrens singing and laughing woke me up.Jenny likes to dance in the rain. There are many ways of breaking a heart.A broken heart will mend over time.Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city. - George BurnsI believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.I dont want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying. - Woody AllenI dont want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying. - Woody AllenIt is not enough to succeed. Others must fail. - Gore VidalSucceeding is not enough. Others must fail. Answer Key Gerund: In this sentence, the words  singing  and  laughing function as nouns, making them gerunds.Infinitive: You can tell that  to dance  is an infinitive because to precedes the word dance.  Gerund: The verbal  breaking  serves as a noun. It is also the object of the preposition  of.(Past) participle: Implied in this sentence is the verbal phrase, that  has been  preceding the verbal,  broken, making it a past participle, which indicates something that happened and was completed in the past.(Present) participles:  Loving and caring  are actions that are occurring in the present, making these verbals present participles.Gerund:  Laughing  is a noun making it a gerund.Infinitives: The verbal to achieve, in both cases, is an infinitive because its a verb preceded by  to.Gerund:  Dying  is used as a noun in the sentence.Infinitive:  To succeed  is an infinitive- a verb preceded by  to.Gerund:  Succeeding  is a noun here; indeed, it is th e subject of the first sentence, making it a gerund.

Thailand Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Thailand - Research Paper Example Poverty level in the country has declined by a big margin. Nevertheless, economic inequality has dramatically increased (Mason 278). The economic progress in the country is evident in the continuous improvement of the non-economic indicators that translate to the well-being, like, life expectancy, infant and maternal mortality rate, and literacy levels. However, the country has not recorded good progress in the education system. It requires reforms in several areas like in the political and corporate governance in order to have a smooth run in economic progress. Introduction Thailand has been among a group of East and Southeast Asia that have formed the center of research because of their outstanding economic performance. She forms part of discussions and is a determinant of economic growth. Just like the other economic pacesetters of Asia, Thailand has employed the common development strategies and their immediate outcomes have not been much different (Brewer and McEwan 123). The co untry has prospered under the globalizing strategy. It lies in the middle-income developing countries in several aspects like; the country was never colonized. This is a unique experience in the states of South East Asia. The country has also been courageous to embark in trade and investment integration with the rest of the world. These interactions in conjunction with macroeconomic policies have steered Thailand towards economic stability. Long-term developments In 1945 at the end of the Second World War Thailand was among the poorest countries in Asia. Its economy remained stagnant for about a century since it had greatly suffered from the war damage. Many economic analysts rated the country as poor. However, in the mid of 1990s, roughly a half a century later, the country replaced all these negative assessments by dramatic economic progresses, following the foot steps of Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Thailand within a short span achieved a rapid economic growth, macroeconomic sta bility, and a steadily declining poverty rate. These made the country acquire consideration as a champion of sustained development (Chaloemtiarana 79). Thailand’s long-term economic developments have had a unique character of high levels of investment and deep trade with world countries. Thailand has maintained an economic stability for a long time, since it has never recorded a negative growth for the last four decades. Thailand’s economic growth is worth emulation starting with its central bank, which got awards for having the most competent and stable management. The crisis that occurred in 1997 to 1998 reversed the country’s fine economic progress and poverty incidences began rising. The exchange rate collapsed and the financial system was largely bankrupt. The economic damage due to this crisis was substantial. It eroded some of the gains that Thailand had made (Mason 312). Since the start of the crisis, Thailand’s economic recovery was moderate and her real GDP was slightly below the log-term trend rate. However, the main question as at now is; where did this rapid economic growth source from. The growth framework has focus on the determinants of aggregate supply as relevant on the specific periods. The Thailand’s impressive growth lies on the primary growth of capital stock. The domestic and foreign investment grew rapidly, but the growth rate for the foreign investment was more rapid. This foreign investment has played an important role in introducing new technology and development of export market. The quantitative importance of foreign investment in Thailand’s capital stock accumulation is prone to exaggeration. The main factors that have contributed to the Thailand’

Bulletin Board with Wireless Digital Display Essay

This project aims to create a wireless transmission of data to a bulletin board for announcements, advertisements and posting of any kinds of informative statements that will be useful for readers, employees and students. 2.1 Problem Statement Electronic bulletin board cannot update information time by time. Our system can provide ready-made templates so that time by time, we can change the appearance base on the activity to be posted. Especially the proponent’s device can provide a wireless transmission of data to bulletin board with different displays. To achieve the goal, the proponents will be addressing the following problems. 2.1.1 General Problem How to create a PC based Bulletin Board with Wireless Digital Display System? 2.1.2 Specific Problems 2.1.3.1 How to create a wireless device that can send data from a computer to a monitor? In updating the posts in the bulletin board, the in-charge personnel need to go over the bulletin board personally just to change and update the posts. 2.1.3.2 How to create the software for the messages to be displayed? In manual updating of information in the bulletin board, the posts should be printed in the paper before posting. 2.1.3.3 How to create log-in module system for the security of the user? Unauthorized person could access the information to be posted in the bulletin board. 2.1.3.4 How to create a module that can control the messages to be displayed? It consumes time updating the information to be posted in the bulletin board, the authorized personnel is required to update the post in a timely manner. 2.1 Proposed Research Project 2.2.1 General Objectives To create a PC based Bulletin Board with Wireless Digital Display System. The proponents will create a device that provides a wireless transmission of data to bulletin boards with different display. 2.2.2 Specific Objectives 2.2.3.1 To create a wireless device that can send data from a computer to a monitor. The proponents will be using a Wi-Fi router for the transmission of data for the LCD display and will create a RF transmitter for the transmission of data for the LED display. 2.2.3.2 To create the software for the messages to be displayed. The proponents will be using Flash Software for the manipulation of the messages to be displayed in the bulletin board. 2.2.3.3 To create log-in system for the security of the users. Limitations: * Distance of the controller from the monitor is limited. * Editing of messages is done manually by a duly authorized person. * This bulletin board is for indoor purposes only. 2.2 Methodology The proponents will be using the cycle of PROTOTYPING METHOD to accomplish the project. PROTOTYPING METHOD a. Requirements Analysis A prototyping model begins with requirements analysis, and the requirements of the system are defined in detail. The user is interviewed in order to know the requirements of the system. b. Design When requirements are known, a preliminary design or quick design for the system is created. It is not a detailed design, however, and includes the important aspects of the system, which gives an idea of the system to the user. c. Paper Design Information gathering from quick design is modified to form a prototype. It represents a ’rough’ design of the required system. d. Prototyping A partially developed product that enables customer and developers to examine some aspect of the proposed system and decide if it’s suitable or appropriate to the finish product. e. Construction The process of combining ideas into a congruous object of thought that based on the paper design. Satisfying certain conditions as part of solving a problem. f. Unit and integration testing The phase in software testing in which individual software modules are combined and tested as a group. It occurs after unit testing and before validation testing. Integration testing takes as its input modules that have been unit tested, groups them in larger aggregates, applies tests defined in an integration test plan to those aggregates, and delivers as its output the integrated system ready for system testing. g. System testing Document Settings must be defined where each types of documents types consists its custom made layouts that suits business processes. Basically document layouts setup or linked to the documents setting are default document layout that are standard layout that complies with the company’s standard business process. h. Acceptance testing Testing generally involves running a suite of tests on the completed system. Each individual test, known as a case, exercises a particular operating condition of the user’s environment or features of the system, and will result in a pass or fail, or Boolean outcome. There is generally no degree of success or failure. i. Operation and maintenance In production, system requires updates, changes and maintenance from time to time so system can work properly. This phase goes on for entire life time of the system. [PFLET998] (Fig 1.0 sees at Appendix B)
